A Virtual 24hr Running Challenge
18-19 July 2020
Run as far as you can, wherever you can
It was with the greatest sadness that we had to announce that this year’s Conti Thunder Run 24hr race is having to be postponed until 2021 due to the restrictions necessary to try and combat the spread of coronavirus.
The most special thing at Thunder Run is the atmosphere created by the runners – the Thunder Run community is made up of an amazing group of people that come together once a year in a field in Derbyshire to share in their love of running. The camaraderie out on course & the support and encouragement throughout the campsites is second to none. Many close friendships have been forged during the race and we’ve even seen relationships flourish into marriages at the event. Although we are not able to put Thunder Run on this year, we do want to put something together for the Thunder Run community, to allow them to still come together in a shared running experience in July.
This is where VR24 comes in. Over the weekend of 18/19 July 2020 we would like to challenge you to run as much as you can within 24hrs, so long as you run safely, responsibly and in line with the government guidelines. Share your photos and stories of your adventures in the special VR24 groups and chat with others taking on the challenge to share the experience. Keeping fit is imperative in these times, the benefits for physical and mental health are well known. So it doesn’t matter if you manage to get out into the hills for miles, if you end up doing laps of the garden, or sessions on the treadmill, just get as much running done as you can around your other commitments.
Everyone that takes up the challenge will receive a commemorative medal, plus there will be a special something for anyone that can cover in excess of 100 miles within the 24hrs. Additionally the best photos, funniest comments and most inspirational stories will win some great prizes donated by the likes of Continental Tyres, Exposure Lights, Osprey Europe, Big Bobblehats and more.
We also want something good to come out of this situation, so a portion of every entry fee will be put into a tree planting programme.
The entry fee for taking part in the VR24 challenge is up to you - pay what you think it's worth. There is a minimum entry fee of £5 towards costs, but if you are able, to please consider increasing the entry fee you pay. We’re not going to lie, as a business this has been the hardest year we have ever faced due to cancelled events and we are going to make a hefty financial loss this year, so we really appreciate your support.
After you have entered you will receive links to join the VR24 groups on Facebook & Strava. Entry packs will be sent out by post in time for the weekend of 18/19 July.
